BATHUKAMMA FEST
Festivals of Telangana are the reflection of the culture of Telangana and the art form of South India. The art forms of the Telugu people manifest all-year round in the form of dance, drama, music and other performing arts including folk arts. They depict varied expressions of joy, hope, love and sheer zest for life.
Bathukamma festival in Telangana is also known as Bodemma. This festival is celebrated in the months of September - October. It is celebrated for nine days during Navaratri. This festival starts on the day of Mahalaya Amavasya. It ends two days before Dussehra known as Durgashtami. On the final day Bathukamma panduga is celebrated as a great festival - Pedda Bathukamma or Saddula Bathukamma. Bathukamma is a beautiful flower stack that is arranged with seasonal flowers, in seven concentric layers like a cone. The word Bathuku in Telugu means life and Amma means mother. Women celebrate the festival dressed-up in traditional silk saris. Batakamma festival is a special festival celebrated with religious fervour in the Telangana State. Bathukamma festival means 'immortal woman'. It is a month long festival where Goddess Batakamma's idol is worshipped and is made to float on the rivers and lakes. Batakamma festival is celebrated to glorify womanhood and her celestial place in the family set up. During these days, Goddess 'Gauri' the patron Goddess of womanhood is worshipped by all the women folk with utmost devotion and piety.
